About the breed

Highland cattle are renowned for having a docile, calm, and intelligent temperament, often described as "gentle giants". They are generally laid-back, curious, and friendly toward humans, especially when handled regularly, making them suitable for small farms and beginners.

Key Temperament Traits:

  • Docile and Gentle:

    They are rarely aggressive, with a calm nature that allows them to live in well-established, low-conflict social hierarchies. 

  • Protective Mothers:

    While generally calm, cows with young calves can become very protective and cautious. 

  • Intelligent and Independent:

    They are hardy, self-sufficient, and intelligent, often forming deep bonds with their herds. 

  • Food Motivated:

    They can be quite food-driven, which makes them easy to charm with treats like apples or carrots. 

  • Safety Caution:

    Despite their friendly reputation, they are large animals with long horns, requiring respectful, cautious handling.

    What’s Included?!?

    • $100 (up to 4 people)/$25 for each additional person

    • 1 Hour of farm time

    • Feed them their favorite treats and brush their iconic hair

    • Education about our Highlands

    • If time remains, we can introduce you to the other friendly animals on the farm

  • Whether you are a beginner or experienced, this is your opportunity to ride!

    ARENA RIDES:

    • Ride in our outdoor arena (weather permitting)

    • Begin with being lead around the arena until you feel comfortable to ride independently a bit

    • $100 for 1 Hr

    • For more experienced riders, you can use this hour as an opportunity to get yourself in a saddle again

    RIDE THROUGH THE FARMLAND:

    • This is an opportunity for those who feel more confident in the saddle. Take a private ride through the nearby Hops fields and Hazelnut farms (weather permitting)

    • $200 for a 2hr private ride

    • Starts in the outdoor arena to get comfortable with your horse

  • We offer visits for people to come and get an opportunity for photography with the following: Cows, horses, donkeys, landscape
